The assistant engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) abducted on December 4 by an underground outfit, returned home safely this morning.
Assistant engineer of PWD division II, Ningthoujam Bimol, 50, s/o N Samutombi of Keisampat Elangbam Leikai, Leikai Achouba, was picked up on December 4 around 10:30 am from his residence by two suspected militants who came on a Dio scooter.
Speaking to media persons today at his residence after his arrival, he said the two suspected militants called him out on the pretext of examining some official work.
As he arrived the kidnappers near Tiddim Oil Pump on Imphal-CCpur road, a white colour Maruti car was waiting, inside which were two occupants.
Abandoning the scooter in front of the oil pump, the four kidnappers drove towards Moirang.
Bimol said that he could only recognise the road at Moirang Lamkhai in Bishnupur district from where the car went off the main road and turned to another direction.
Later that evening, after he was brought to a house in an undisclosed location his kidnappers disclosed to him the reasons of his abduction.
Bimol said that the abduction followed a government order that had upset percentage cuts from public funds enjoyed by the UG outfit.
The abductors demanded the list of sub-contractors of work tenders announced by the government, to which he had given acceptance.
On the next day he was moved to another location, this relocation carried on till early morning today when he was released.
He headed to the nearest bus parking on an autorickshaw from where he reached his home in Imphal around 9 am, Bimol said.
