But the same programme was deferred till Ningol Chakkouba festival as inauguration of the three market complexes of Khwairamband Keithel on the day (November 6) would cause great inconveniences to people coming to the markets for festival shopping.
Meanwhile, the SPF Government led by Congress party and the Congress party itself have already started hectic preparations for the scheduled visit of the AICC president, setting up different sub-committees.
It is reported that a special team of SPG may arrive here on November 10 ahead of Sonia Gandhi's visit.
As per the itinerary of the scheduled visit, after landing at Tulihal Airport, Sonia Gandhi would be flown to Churachandpur by a special aircraft and there she would inaugurate Khuga Multipurpose Project.
She would come back to Kangla and proceed to Sahid Minar where she would floral tributes to martyrs.
Then she would inaugurate the newly constructed annexe building of Congress Bhavan before unveiling statue of Mahatma Gandhi installed there recently.
This would be followed by inauguration of the three market complexes of Khwairamband Keithel.
Later on the same day, she would address a public meeting at Mapal Kangjeibung before leaving Imphal for Delhi.
On the other hand, the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has urged upon the State Government to accommodate street vendors at the temporary market sheds after licensed vendors currently occupying the temporary market sheds vacate them and move to the newly constructed market complexes.
Speaking to media persons at Irabot Bhavan here today, general secretary of the National Federation of the Road Side Vendors, Sanktiman Ghosh said that it also responsibility of the State Government to give seats to the road side vendors.
He said that more than four crore road side vendors have been struggling to earn livelihood and education expenses of their children in the country.
Quoting a Supreme Court directive that road side vendors should be given necessary space, Sanktiman Ghosh reminded that the Parliament passed the Model Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Bill in 2008 .
This was followed by the Prime Minister's instruction to all Chief Ministers to allot seats to street vendors on August 14, 2009 .
For Manipur too, the State Government should make necessary arrangements to give seats to street vendors in the temporary market sheds as and when they are vacated.
