Likely to visit State on April 8 or 9;JAC calls off general strike

Sonia Gandhi, the chairperson of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) will not be visiting the state on Saturday, April 4, as was scheduled and reported earlier.
However, her visit to the state has been scheduled for sometime later next week, sources in the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) said.
In the meanwhile, the 24 hour general strike called on Saturday (tomorrow) by the JAC against the brutal murder of Dr Th Kishan and his two fellow staff has been suspended.
An official from the MPCC informed that the leader of the AICC will not be visiting the state of Manipur on Saturday as was reported earlier.
However, she might visit the state sometime later next week tentatively on April 8 or April 9, the official added.
But the exact date can't be ascertained now of her visit, the official informed further.
The chairperson of the AICC, Sonia Gandhi was, as per reports, scheduled to visit the state of Manipur on Saturday, April 4, for a campaign kick-off for the Congress for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency with sitting Member of Parliament (MP) Dr T Meinya as its candidate.
However, with her visit rescheduled for sometime next week, the Congress campaign could also perhaps be delayed.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the brutal killing of Dr Kishan, Token and Rajen has suspended the general strike it announced earlier for April 4 in the interest of the people, a statement signed by the JAC Co-convenor, N Michael said.
The general strike has been suspended owing to the cancellation of the scheduled tour of the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Michael states while adding that the words of JAC on Sonia's visit remain intact.
It may be mentioned that the JAC had announced general strike on April 4 in connection with the proposed visit of UPA Chairperson and AICC President Sonia Gandhi to Imphal.
