Imphal, June 25:
In connection with the observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, 2007, USER, Manipur has raised many questions pertaining to the problem of drug abuse and illicit trafficking in Manipuri society, wondering whether it is a direct fallout of chemical warfare being unleased to contain the problem of insurgency.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at the office of USER Manipur here today, its president AK Kamat said the most important thing to be discussed and analysed by the people of Manipur today is why drugs are easily available in different parts of the State.
He recalled that around 1970s, drugs like Morphine, Podrome, Mandrake, etc were available and used by the some of the people.
But today banned pharmaceutical substances like SP tablet, Dendrite, Erases Sinnarest, Cyclopam, Nitrazepam, Valium are made available among the people, specially the youth.
So it is essential to find out why drugs are available easily in Manipur.
The menace of drug abuse have always been an associated problem in all the States plagued with insurgency.
Thus, it is pertinent to question whether a chemical warfare or micro terrorism is being unleased here to suppress insurgency in Manipur or a strategy to create communal tension among the people, he said, while appealing to all the political leaders and NGOs to join hands in finding out the truth.
