Shillong, February 23 2009:
Close on the heels of the NSCN (IM)'s confession over the killing of Dr Kishan and two of his staff, the United Committee Manipur (UCM) today urges the withdrawal of the 'futile' ceasefire between the GOI and the NSCN (IM).In a press release, the UCM information and publicity secretary stated that since the peace talk between the GOI and the NSCN (IM) had began, the people of Manipur have been tolerating numerous incidents of looting, levying illegal taxes, abduction, killing innocents, etc unleashed by the NSCN (IM).
The statement lamented that even in the face of all these happenings, the state government preferred to remain silent over the matters like watching a cat licking the milk in the bowl.
It also urges the people to stand cohesively against the divisive policy of the Central Government.
It said that the NSCN (IM) admittance of the involvement of its men in the killing of Dr Kishan and two of his subordinates, after gauging the influence of the public agitation do not guarantee that the NSCN(IM) could be trusted in punishing the culprit 'Lt Col' Ningshen, who they announce is under their custody.
It said that if the NSCN (IM) is sincerely serious enough to acknowledge the public's sentiment, it must hand over the culprits to the public immediately while adding that this is not the first instance of selective murder.
It also charged that there is no reason over the non-involvement of the NSCN (IM) CAO and its 'law and order' workers in the killing incident.
It said that if they are not involved, it will not be wrong to assume the group as a headless, uncouth 'terrorist organisation.' It also shared the grief of the bereaved families and the public while saying that a void will remain with lost of the three souls.
