One youngster who identified himself as an activist of the proscribed KCP-MC was rounded up and beaten up by people when he came to extort money using two live rounds of pistol and a piece of paper with a mobile phone number written on it.
The incident took place at Soibam Leikai Meri Leirak under Porompat police station in Imphal East district at about 9.30 am today.
According to information culled from the spot, two youngsters came to the locality on a motor-cycle (Bajaj Pulsar, red colour).
While one of them stayed back, the other walked into the house of one Maibam Tombi (52) who works in IFCD as electricity line-man.
At the gate of Tombi, the youngster pulled out two live rounds of pistol and a piece of paper on which was written a mobile phone number.
There, he asked one Maibam Maimu to give the bullets and the paper to Tombi.
Maimu is said to be the elder brother of Tombi.
Saying that Tombi was away, Maimu refused to take the bullet and the paper.
But the youngster insisted on leaving the articles with Maimu and started raising his voice.
At this, the neighbouring people rushed in and rounded up the extortionist.
After some thrashing, he was handed over to police.
However, his companion fled from the area before the ruckus broke out.
It is reported that the apprehended youngster might be one Chirom Sadananda (25) of Kyamgei Makha Leikai.
Another piece of paper with a telephone number written on it was delivered to Tombi's house by one youth who also identified himself as an activist of KCP-MC on April 13 .
However, Tombi's family did not accept the delivery.
