Farmers aware on use of eco-friendly insecticides and pesticides

A one-day awareness programme on the use of eco-friendly insecticides and pesticides was held at at Patlou Mandop in Moirang today.
The programme hosted by Human Nature Organisation was sponsored by the Agri Life, BT Flyover, Imphal.
Senior assistant prof of Central Agricultural University, Iroishemba, who talked as resource person elaborately aware the farmers on the harmful effect of using chemical insecticide and pesticides, urged the farmers to use bio-fertilizers and insecticides and pesticides manufactured from the extract of the plants to protect their crops from insect and pest.
He also mentioned the recent ban on manufacture, sale and use of the cheap and popular pesticide endosulfan by an order of the Supreme Court, citing its toxic effects on humans and environment and appealed the farmers to avoid using chemical insecticides and pesticides as far as practicable.
He also elaborately talked on the impact on the environment given by the chemical pesticides and insecticides.
