Imphal, June 11 2013:
Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing has informed that the Rabi School of Nursing has been banned for failing to meet the prescribed norms of Nursing Council.
The Minister was replying to a Calling Attention Motion raised by MLA Th Shyamkumar regarding issue of fake certificates to students of Rabi School of Nursing on the second sitting of 5th Session of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly today.
Phungzathang further pointed out that there are several guidelines of Nursing Council of India for establishment of nursing schools.
Rabi School of Nursing was previously located at Bishnupur district and later shifted to Ghari.
It was earlier affiliated to Assam Nursing Council, but changed to Manipur Nursing Council after its formation in 2008, he noted.
Rabi School of Nursing was banned in 2012 after the officials of State Nursing Council found that the School did not meet the prescribed norms, Health Minister said while appealing to parents not to admit their wards in this nursing school.
He further mentioned that there are 9 nursing schools for ANM and another 8 schools for GNM in the State.
The officials are closely monitoring these schools to see if they fulfil the prescribed norms or not.
Phungzathang also stated that those students who passed their matriculation examination from National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) after 2003 would not be recognized as per the order of State government, and so those nurses with NIOS certificate would also be not allowed in government service.
He further noted that Manipur Nursing College would be inaugurated soon.
The Indian Nursing Council has already given its approval and works for the College are underway in full swing.
Raising the Calling Attention Motion, MLA Shyamkumar said that Rabi School of Nursing has given fake certificates to its students and so many of them are languishing with no job or degree even after completing nursing courses.
He questioned the State government for giving affiliation to a nursing school without fulfilling the prescribed norms of Nursing Council.
Shyamkumar urged the authorities concerned to take strict action against Rabi School of Nursing for issuing fake certificates to students.
