Imphal, January 11 2011:
It has been learnt that Maramphung village in Ukhrul district which is located 61 kms from Ukhrul district HQ along the Jessami road is still deprived of facilities of many government schemes.
The government has not taking up any developmental works in the village.
According to village chief SA Kahousang, the water supply scheme which was constructed by the state government is not functioning since there is no lineman.
There is not a single government employee in the village which has a population of around 300 from 52 households.
The main occupation of the village is making salt.
He said that cultivation and kitchen gardening are the other occupations of the villages.
Villagers make a collective effort to bring changes in the economic condition of the village by making salt.
They are using only one salt spring although there are many other salt springs.
Each household makes salt from the spring in turn for supporting their family.
They sell the salt at Mao and Paomai.
Village chief, SA Kahousang appealed to the concerned authorities to immediately take up developmental works in the village.
He said, the utter neglect of the government is something unheard of and most unfortunate.
