Two doctors under police scanner over dead of a woman

Imphal, January 06 2011:
Two doctors (husband and wife) were under police scanner after a woman died in delivery, after giving birth to a baby girl on Tuesday last.
On Tuesday (January 4), one Thokchom Priyari Devi, wife of Th Bijoy of Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai, Imphal delivered one baby girl at the residence of Dr Ch Memcha Devi, a medical officer of state Health Services (registration no.10221) and Dr Sorokhaibam Bikram of Kwakeithel Sorokhaibam Leikai, Imphal.
After delivery of the child, the doctors expressed the health condition of the mother was in good condition and further instructed to buy medicines.
However, as the doctors demanded medicines repeatedly the family members were suspicious and enquired into the condition of the woman.
Priyari was found under bleeding condition.
Seeing the situation the family members requested the doctors to take the patient to hospital.
However, the doctors refused to do so.
Later, the death was confirmed when the body was evacuated to RIMS hospital, Imphal.
Alleging that Priyari expired due to the negligence of the doctors at the residence of doctors, family of the deceased woman lodged a complaint with the Singjamei police of Imphal west district.
Since the accused mentioned is a medical practitioners doctors, police cannot lodged FIR case against the alleged accused doctors as per the direction of the Supreme Court ruling.
So, police registered and UD Case under section 174 Cr PC of Singjamei Police Station and the case is under investigation, a police officer said.
