Normal life was affected in Ukhrul district on today by a 24-hour district-wide bandh called in protest against the "forced imposition" of ADC Act.
The bandh which began from last midnight went off peacefully by and large as no untoward incidents were reported from any part of the district.
Inter-district buses and other commercial vehicles on the Imphal-Ukhrul section of the NH-150 were off the road.
The volume of vehicular traffic on the streets in Ukhrul district headquarters was sharply reduced.
Most of business establishments, government offices and educational institutes remained closed for the day, a report received here said.
The bandh was called by the Tangkhul Co-ordination Committee (TCC) to protest against the creation of Executive Director of DRDA under the ADC Act.
The TCC has been demanding no developmental programmes/schemes should be implemented under Executive Director, DRDA.
The bandh had been opposed by the Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front, who threatened of stern action against the functionaries of TCC for calling the 24-hour Ukhrul district bandh alleging that the leaders of the committee are "sowing satanic hatred and enmity among the Tangkhuls in the name of TCC" .
