l over death, accuses cops
Imphal, Jun 30: Lodging a complaint over an alleged 'genuine murder case' which was passed off as 'a fake motor accident by the OC and IO of Ukhrul police', the DGP has been urged to take up immediate action against the concerned police officers and personnel.
The complaint has been lodged by Thuingaleng Khamrang, elder brother of late Worinkhan Khamrang of Tora Aheng village, who was allegedly murdered on June 21. Briefing media persons in this regard at Manipur Press club here today, Thuingaleng Khamrang informed that his younger brother Worinkhan Khamrang was a diesel jeep owner.
On June 20, his jeep broke down at Somdal village.
As it was late, Worinkhan and his wife put up at his wife's parent's house at Ukhrul.
Thuingaleng said that in the evening of June 20, 2012 at round about 5:00 pm, the accused Paoringyao Horam who is also the owner of a jeep came to the house of Worinkhan's in law's house along with Ninglumpam Khamrang s/o Kuisang Khamrang both from Champhung Changta village and called out Worinkhan on the pretext that one vehicle had been arranged to pull out his defective jeep.
However, in the evening of June 21, 2012 at about 5:00 pm, the family members were informed over the phone that Worinkhan had been killed in a jeep accident near Hundung cement factory.
When the family members reached the spot, a number of police personnel were found surrounding the spot and the deceased.
When they enquired about the matter, the accused Paoringyao Horam and his colleagues stated that Worinkhan was killed in a jeep accident.
However, when the family members inspected the jeep it was found to be pushed down the road on the way to Ukhrul from Imphal and no sign of motor accident could be seen.
The body of the deceased was found in a pool of blood with marks of strangulation on the neck.
Surprisingly, no other people who were reportedly with him in the jeep at the time of the accident were found to be injured, Thuingaleng recalled.
He further informed that the police took the dead body to the district Hospital the following morning after it was kept in the police station the whole night.
Even before post mortem was conducted at RIMS, the body was handed over to the family by the doctors and Police.
The police officers of Ukhrul even approached the family of the deceased for negotiations.
The accused party also came to the family of the deceased for further compromise which was flatly denied.
As such, the matter was brought to the notice of the DGP to take necessary action against the dishonest police personnel of Ukhrul Police Station in the murder case.
