AMADA renews call for battle against drugs

Imphal, December 20 2009: The All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) today celebrated its fourth foundation day as "Mayai Kaba Chinchgakki Mayokta Mitak Thokpa Numit" today with a function held at Samurou Mayai Leikai Kangjeibung.

The function held with the theme "Lets save our future from intoxicant" was graced by circle MLA of Wangoi, Salam Joy as chief guest and presided over by the president of the AMADA, M Padamani Leima.

Member of the Takyel Zilla Parishad, Ng Bimola attended the function as chief guest.

President of the Islam Cultural Research Organisation, Md Hatim Ali and Ganga Leima also attended as special invitees of the function.

Chief guest MLA Salam Joy unfurled the AMADA flag and he along with other dignitaries released balloon with AMADA's message in the sky.

Speaking on the occasion, Joy expressed concern over the invention by intoxicant items to the talented youths of the state.

Manipuri proud of its sports and rich culture but two things that would shame of being proud of Manipuri invented Manipur.

They are HIV/AIDS and gun culture.

The state is in woeful state.

Many things which are not expected are seen here.

If not check and controls such things with a concerted effort, the state may extinct, he expressed fear.

He also encouraged the effort of the AMADA coming out boldly to save the society from dipping into the sea of intoxicant items.

Many people of the state have been drowned into the sea of intoxicant items.

Knowing this state government has also planned to allocate Rs 1 lakh each to the local area development fund of the MLAs for spreading awareness on the dreaded disease, he added.

In his key note address of the celebration function, organisational secretary K Meghachandra said AMADA was set up considering the worsening condition of the society with increasing number of intoxicant items.

The campaign of the AMADA is a multi- approach one.

Many have conducted drive against intoxicant items.

Underground organisations as well government agencies have been campaigning drive against the items.

Meira Paibees and local have been efforting to control the same in their respectively.

But, the items are still marketing in the state.

There had instances of involvement of government high ranking officials in drug trafficking in the state.

This has compelled people to think that there is some hidden agenda of launching a war similar to "Opium War" in the state too.

He also read out activities and achievement of the body during the last four year since its inception.

The Shumang Leela "Opium War" produced by the AMADA was also staged at the concluding part of the celebration function.
