Imphal, July 30 2010:
Khaki-clad unidentified persons wielding automatic weapons reportedly looted Rs 1.04 lakhs from a man, who was detained at gun-point and driven around before cleaning up the individual.
Speaking to newspersons today, the victim namely Hamom Somorjit (32) of Moirang Khoiru Awang Leikai said he was on his way to RIMS Hospital from JNIMS on a motorcycle when some armed persons attired in Khaki dress stopped him at Hatta Traffic Point at about 8.30 pm yesterday.
on being asked what was inside the bag he was carrying, Somorjit promptly replied it was money after which one of the unidentified persons took the bag away.
Soon after he was shoved into in a white colour Maruti, blind-folded and driven around, Somorjit recounted while stating that plea to inform his family was rejected.
The vehicle stopped at least four times before he was asked to get down with a warning not to remove the blind-fold till the men left.
Upon sensing that the men had driven away, Somorjit removed the blind-fold and realised that he was abandoned near Mantripukhri NRL Energy Station at around 11.30 pm with his bike parked nearby.
Informing that the money was meant for transplanting pace-maker of his uncle (mother's brother), who is in the ICU of RIMS, Somorjit said due to a communication gap he went to JNIMS to hand over the money but came across the looters on his way to RIMS.
Somorjit revealed that the armed men threatened to kill him in case the matter was disclosed to others.
