Imphal, June 25:
Taking a serious note of water logging at Yangloi Karong canal due to the thick bio mass floating there, MLA of Oinam A/C Dr I Ibohalbi has stated that if necessary action is not taken up to drain the water away, many acres of paddy fields face the danger of being flooded.
The MLA sounded the warning as over flowing water from Nambul river, Waishel Maril, Brojen Thong, Nambol river, Oinam river, Keinou river and Khujairok river instead of flowing freely into the Loktak lake have remained stagnated at Yangloi Karong canal due to thick bio masses.
If the canal is not cleared and the water drained away, then there is the real danger of vast tracts of paddy fields getting submerged under water, said the MLA.
The water level has been rising with each passing day, said the MLA adding that many areas at Toubul Mamang, Ngaikhong Khulen, Ngaikhong Siphai, Keinou Mamang, Yumnam Khunou and Oinam Kkhul have been submerged.
The rising water level could adversely affect the standing crops and other seasonal vegetables which are yet to be harvested.
Though the matter has been put forward to MI and IFCD, nothing has been taken up while the dredging machine near the canal has been lying defunct, added the MLA.
