Imphal, July 24 2009:
Highlighting the drought like situation being faced in Chandel district as in other parts of the State, the Anal Naga Tangpi (Ana Tribe Union) has sought immediate attention of the Government so that necessary measures are taken up to enable farmers cultivate crops.
The usually wet paddy fields located in and around Chakpikarong, Toupokpi and Sajik Tampak within Chakpikarong sub-division, Kambathel, Julbang, Unopat, Wangkhera, Komlathabi, Liwachangning, Pallel and foothills adjoining Thoubal district remained parched, conveyed a press release issued by ANTA.
Observing that farmers could not cultivate any crop under the prevailing condition, ANTA urged upon the authority concerned to extend all possible assistance to farmers of Chandel district.
On the other hand, ANTA hailed the decision of the State Cabinet to hand construction/improvement work of Pallel-Chandel-Sugnu-Chakpikarong road to BRTF.
It also assured full support and cooperation of the local people in implementing the road development work.
It further lauded the Chief Minister's declaration to deploy some security personnel at Chakpikarong for re-opening of SBI Chakpikarong Branch.
Yet, ANTA voiced their disapproval of the Cabinet decision to deploy 'extra forces like IRB and commandos' in Chandel district.
