Agriculture Minister N Loken has informed that the Agriculture Department had distributed seeds, pesticides and rat-traps worth Rs 70 lakhs to the affected people of bamboo flowering in Tamenglong, Chandel, Churachandpur and Jiribam for the year 2006-07.Talking to some reporters, the Minister assured that the complaint of shortage of food-grain in Tousem Sub-Division of Tamenglong district following wide spread destruction by rodents as a consequent of the bamboo flowering would be discussed and taken care of after the Chief Minister returns from Delhi.
Responding to a question on selling of Urea to the farmers by the Government at inflated price, the Minister clarified that although the price of Urea had been hiked as the same had been procured from a private firm by the Dept in order to ensure timely supply of the fertiliser to the farmers, now the price has been controlled and there is no hike.
