late Dr Kishan's wife to be given MCS post; CM Ibobi appeals for calm

Imphal, February 19 2009:
State Chief Minister, O Ibobi today appealed to the people to remain calm and not to believe rumours which may create communal disturbances as the present situation in Manipur remains tense and volatile.
Addressing a press conference held this afternoon at the Cabinet Hall of the Chief Minister Secretariat, Ibobi announced that the government has ordered probe into the case of brutal murder of Kasom Khullen SDO, Dr Thingnam Kishan along with his two staff.
The Chief Minister also announced that the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police of Ukhrul district have been placed under suspension from their service with immediate effect.
He appealed to the people not to believe rumours which may rouse communal sentiments, and at the same time thanked the people for not creating any communal disturbances.

The Government of Manipur has also decided to induct the wife of the deceased SDO, Dr Th Kishan into the Manipur Civil Service (MCS), and government jobs to the next of kin of the deceased driver Rajen and Mandol Token, Ibobi said at the press conference.
The wife of late Dr Kishan is said to be a topper in MA (Political Science) in Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi.
The government has taken a very serious view on the killing of the SDO and his two staff, therefore deputed Inspector General of Police (Law and Order-III) along with adequate number of security personnel for conducting operation in various suspected areas to nab the culprits, he said.
The Chief Minister further informed media persons at the hurriedly called press conference that the state Cabinet has decided to place Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul, Pankaj Kumar Pal, IAS and SP Ukhrul, A Dorji, IPS for dereliction of duty.
An inquiry committee headed by O Nabakishore, Commissioner (Agriculture) and LM Khoute IG (Intel) has been formed to investigate the triple murder case.
The Cabinet meeting held this morning has also decided to induct the wife of the deceased Dr Kishan into MCS in recognition of the late SDO's sacrifices and devotion to duty and government jobs to the next of kin of the other two staff in commensurate with educational qualifications.
He also said that the state government is serious on booking the culprits and punish them according to the degree of their crimes.
In the aftermath of the announcement of the compensations to the deceased government employees and as follow up to the Cabinet decision, the state government has issued an order sub-allocating a sum of Rs 20 lakhs to the Deputy Commissioner, Imphal west for payment of ex-gratia in favour of the next of kin of the deceased persons.
The amount is allocated under the Victims of Extremists Action Scheme of the government for the year 2008-09, the order mentioned asking the DC, Imphal west to disbursed the amount to the beneficiaries within 30 days from the date of drawal of the amount.
