Imphal, November 13 2010:
"By concealing the whereabouts of United National Liberation Front (UNLF) chief RK Sanayaima aka RK Meghen, is the Central govrnment waiting for some turmoil to stock up in Manipur?" asked Brinda, the daughter-in-law of RK Meghen today in a protest demonstration.
These hard hitting question was spelt out in a sit-in-protest staged at Hicham Yaicham pat, Yaiskul in Imphal on the theme "Involuntary disappearance: A Phenomenon of Indian Democracy?" Through the protest that was participated by Yaiskul Janmastham and its surrounding areas, an attempt was made to rally the refrain against the Central government's apathy to the petitions seeking for the revelation of the whereabouts of the rebel UNLF leader RK Meghen who was reportedly arrested in Dhaka by a joint team of RAW sleuths and Bangladeshi police on September 29 last and later allegedly extradited to India.
Interacting with pressmen, the daughter-in-law of the rebel leader said that the very fact that Sonia Gandhi on her visit to the State found it wise to abstain from commenting on the reported arrest of RK Meghen and his alleged disappearance from Bangladesh revealed the negligence of Central government of India over the issue of Manipur in particular and the entire North East in general.
This has once again proved beyond doubt that Government of India has for the last 52 years been approaching the people of North East India with a "step-motherly" attitude.
In what seemed like an off-the-cuff remark, Brinda conveyed her suspicion that, "the Government of India may have been engaged in pursuing him (RK Meghen) to a negotiation table, with which he (RK Meghen) is totally not acceptable" .
Today's protest was an attempt to garner support to rally behind the voice against "Involuntary Disappearance", "however, this should not be misconstrued as a justification to what he (RK Meghen) is, rather it is a validation of a citizen's rights, besides there is a strong ground on humanitarianism," cautioned Brinda.
Some of the placards in the protest demonstration read: "Come out with official confirmation statement", "Respect human values", "Reveal RK Meghen's physical and mental status", "He should be given protection of all humanitarian and international laws", "Do not flout humanitarian laws", etc.
