Imphal, March 01 2011:
Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) has urged for a speedy end to the ongoing impasse between the state government and the striking Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) .
Speaking at a press briefing at the MEELAL head office in Imphal today, MEELAL president Moirangthem Nongdalenkhomba appealed to both sides to work towards resolving the matter at the earliest and to take into account the public opinion in coming to an agreement.
If the appeal goes unheeded then MEELAL will be forced to take extreme steps, he cautioned.
Under the aegis of COTA, government school teachers have been demanding implementation of the Sixth revised pay as per the memorandum of understanding signed between the state government of Manipur and the JAC of AMGEO and AMTUC along with COTA.
Regarding the agreement between MEELAL and the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) on the inclusion of Meetei Mayek script in advertisements published in the local newspapers, he said that the deadline agreed upon ended on February 27 .
Hence, MEELAL will start its drive from March 4 onwards to ensure that the agreement is carried out in letter, he added.
