Imphal, Aug 31:
Protesting against the transfer of a teacher from their college even as they have been urging to provide the shortage teachers in the Chemistry Department, students of the Imphal College boycotted classes today and staged sit-in-protest at the college campus.
Finance secretary of the Imphal College students' union Y Pradipkumar said that they would not meddle with the transfer of teachers but the replacement teachers must be sent before the transfer order is effected as most often the authority concerned failed to send the replacement teachers after the existing teachers were transferred elsewhere.
Noting that the Chemistry Department of Imphal College is one of the best in the whole State with more than 600 students, Pradipkumar flayed the decision of the Government to transfer one of the Chemistry teacher to Pettigrew College, Ukhrul on August 17 while another one had just retired.
Demanding for immediate posting of a replacement teacher in place of the one sent to Pettigrew College, he warned of strong agitation if the State Government fails to pay heed to their ongoing stir.
