The fast-unto-death campaigner against AFSPA, Sharmila has been detained by the Porompat Police under IPC section 309.The details on why Sharmila has taken up the fast unto death agitation have to be produced within 365 days from the date of her arrest.
The deadline expires on March 7. Sharmila has been on strike since 2000 for the removal of AFSPA.
Though the police arrested her, the Court has provided bail for her.
However, on her refusal released on bail, she has been put under judicial custody remand.
Expressing concern over the silence maintained by the state government even as Omar Abdullah, the CM of Jammu and Kashmir, where the law and order situation is worse than here, announces for the repeal of AFSPA in J&K, Sharmila, while talking to reporters today also question why the government is maintaining its silence still.
It is very displeasing to note that the government remains silent by just saying that the injustices around us are natural phenomena, Sharmila said while adding that something must be done by the youths so as to bring the state in the right track.
