Imphal, March 24 2009:
Asserting that there is a hidden agenda of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in awarding the party's ticket to incumbent inner Manipur Lok Sabha MP, Dr T Meinya, who it indicts as a representative who never bothered to rebuff the statement of his counterpart MP of the outer Manipur seat, Mani Charenamei over the territorial integrity issue of Manipur in the Parliament, the Manipur People's Party (MPP) Legislature party leader O Joy today demanded to know the hidden agenda of the AICC.
Adressing media persons today at the MPP office here, O Joy said that the move of the MPP for facilitation of a resolution for the repeal of AFSPA in the state Assembly has been opposed by the Congress and CPI MLAs.
He said that since the CPI has also stiffly resisted for the repeal of AFSPA, the party's inclusion of the repeal of the Act in the wake of the election is misleading and the people should teach the party a lesson.
Referring to the imposition of President's Rule in Meghalaya under Article 356 of the Indian Constitution, O Joy also strongly condemned the step of the Congress party to the non-Congress state government while also demanding the re-call of the Meghalaya Governor and the re-installation of the government.
Contd.
Speaking on the occasion, MPP President, Dr L Chandramani said that the Congress is painting Democracy in a wrong way while also conveying that the NCP National leaders have filed a case in the Supreme Court regarding the imposition of PR in Meghalaya.
Terming the incident as unfortunate, 12 non-Congress parties have held a meeting on March 21 last.
The meeting was attended by MPP leaders like O Joy, Dr L Chandramani, Manipur state unit President of NCP, Radhabinod Koijam, NPP President, Hangkhanlian.
He lamented that the Congress Government remains silent till now even as the Jeevan Reddy Commission has recommended the repeal of AFSPA from Manipur.
He said that the people of Manipur should adopt other rightful means against the development.
MPP Spokesperson, RK Anand also said that the agenda moved by the MPP for the repeal of AFSPA in the state Assembly was opposed not only by the Congress legislators but the CPI MLAs have also go up against the move.
As such, he said that the CPI also forms a part in killing people in fake encounters on daily basis in the state.
He said the party, which pretends to concern for the welfare of the people just near the election, should be rejected by the people.
Prof N Mohendro, the candidate of the four-party alliance in the inner Manipur, while speaking on the occasion said that the people should take the coming election as the beginning of a training point for the people, but not just as a mere election.
He said that the role of an MP could not be taken as bringing development through the MP Local Area Development Fund.
He added that the role of an MP is to provide security to the people and to tanslate it into action.
Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that a person who can break the territorial integrity of Manipur should not be supported.
