Imphal, January 24 2013:
A delegation of Co-ordinating Committee of Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) today met Governor Gurbachan Jagat and poured out their grievances over the issue of devolution of power to the ADCs.
A memorandum in this regard was also submitted to the Governor urging him to make a report to the President of India about the failure of administration at the grassroots level in the hill districts of Manipur.
Talking to mediapersons at Majorkhul after meeting the Governor, Ngalangzar Malue, Convener of the Co-ordinating Committee, said that they have given enough time to the State Government over the issue of devolution of power to the ADCs.
However, as the State Government has not given positive response to their legitimate demands, the Co-ordinating Committee had launched a number of agitations.
As a part of these agitations, a delegation of the Co-ordinating Committee met the Governor today and submitted a memorandum in the regard.
The Governor carefully read the memorandum and assured the delegation that he would personally take up the matter with the Chief Minister, Ngalanzar informed.
He made it clear that if the State Govt continues to neglect the legitimate demands even after this, they would approach the Centre to get their demands fulfilled.
He asserted that the demands of the Co-ordinating Committee are for allowing the ADCs to take part in the developmental programmes of the hill areas, which would in turn ensure overall development of the State.
Since 2010, the CM has been giving assurance for devolving power to the ADCs.
But the assurances have not been translated into action so far, thus, compelling the Co-ordinating Committee to take recourse to agitations, the Convenor explained.
The Co-ordinating Committee of ADC also met Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing and the latter has also given his assurance for taking up the issue with the Chief Minister, Ngalanzar said, adding that they would also be meeting the Chairman of Hill Area Committee (HAC) soon.
