Curfew cripples life

Imphal, February 23 2009:
District authorities of Imphal west and east has announced relaxation of curfew for 10 hours from 7 am till 5 pm tomorrow as normalcy has been resuming in the Imphal areas.
Regarding the relaxation of the curfew tomorrow, respective district magistrates have issued order this evening.
The order however, mention that restriction to the gathering five or more than five and carrying of deadly weapons during the relax hours will be in force under section 144 of the CrPC.
Today, the curfew was relaxed for eight hours from 9 am till 5 pm.
No untoward incidents reported during the curfew relaxation hours.
With the relaxation of the restriction, some schools were opened and normal classes conducted.
Government offices were also opened but only few employees are seen attending offices and performing official works today.
Normal life in the state remained disturbed for the last six days continuously since the imposition of 48- hour general strike on February 18 and 19 in protest against the murder of the SDO Kasom Khullen and his two subordinate staff by miscreants on February 17 which was followed by indefinite curfew imposing in grater Imphal area by the district authorities of the Imphal east and west from 5 pm of February.
On resuming to normalcy in the state and able to perform essential works by the general people and so as to able to attend offices, schools and colleges by the employees of the state government and students, the curfew has been relaxed.
