Imphal, July 22 2009:
All India Christian Council (AICC) has alleged that the villagers of Huikap village harassed members of Christian minority.
A press release of the council said that the incident happened when a two-year-old Christian boy died after he was drown in a village pond.
The body was buried by his father on July 19 at a plot formally donated for Christian cemetery by a family from neighbouring Christian village, it added.
AICC further alleged that father of the boy and pastor of a Church were summoned by Huikap villagers and forced them to sign on a document to remove the body by 10 am of the next day.
It added that with much request, the villagers accepted not to remove the body from the grave yard.
But the villagers warned that no Christian dead body will be either allowed to carry away from the village or allow to bury in the village, the press release said.
The matter had been reported to the regional secretary of AICC, and the secretary in turn submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary of Manipur to look into the incident, and also to ensure safety for Christian community of the village.
