Imphal, April 21 2012:
Demanding transfer of 82 RCC OC Chaube, BRTF labourers engaged in the road construction work from Moreh Ward No 1 to New Somtal launched cease work strike since April 16 .
This was discovered when a media team visited the work site today.
Talking to the visiting media team, one labourer named Yangsei Lhungdim said that OC Chaube has been treating the labourers in a very discriminatory manner since he came to 82 RCC about a year back.
He shares no empathy with problems and difficulties faced by labourers and when any of the labourers fall sick or get injured, they were simply discharged.
Moreover, when a labourer was absent for a day, wages for two days were deducted, Lhungdim said.
Saying that the labourers would call on the commander of 25 BRTF at Imphal tomorrow or day after to highlight their plight, Yangsei Lhungdim conveyed his desire for superior officers to make a field inspection of the ongoing works which include shingling, culvert construction, gate fencing, black-topping etc.
Though the road from Moreh to New Somtal is 179 Kms long, work has been started only on 6 Kms.
Out of these 6 Kms, about 500 metres have been black-topped, he added.
