NCPCR team investigates into Amujao's death

A team of National Commission on Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) led by Shanta Sinha Chairperson, North East Cell conducted a field investigation into the death of one A Amujao (16) of Sawombung, who was allegedly killed by Manipur Police Commandos on January 27 last.
Speaking to media persons at Hotel Classic today, Shanta Sinha informed that the Commission received a complaint against the killing of Amujao by Manipur Police Commandos on January 27 this year.
In this connection the members of the Commission investigated into the case and met the family members of Amujao, officials of Manipur Police, DGP and other government officials.
In the course of the investigation it has been known that a gang was involved in the killing of A Amujao.
She further informed that the Home Minister has assured to further investigate into the case and bring out the truth.
The authority concerned of the state government should submit a report on the investigation to the Commission.
She informed that necessary measures would be taken up to establish a nodal organization of the NCPCR in the state.
All the required officials of the nodal organization would also be inducted, and a Standard Operating Procedure would be set up in the state.
Shanta Sinha appealed to all to abide by the rules of Juvenile Justice Act which has also been implemented in the state, and pointed out that there have been many cases of violation of the Act in the state.
She also stressed on the need for establishing a State Policy for Child in the state and assured that NCPCR would extend all necessary help from its side in the regard.
Dr LD Mishra, Special Advisor, North East Cell, NCPCR, who was also present at the press conference, said that a number of action plans have been set up to address the issues of child labour and child trafficking.
The press conference was also attended by DR Karthikeyan, former Director of CBI.
