Tamenglong, April 20 2010:
Normal life in Tamenglong district was severely affected today due to the 48 hours total bandh imposed by the Manipur Tribal Joint Action Committee Against Election Under Unwanted District Council Act, reports our Tamenglong correspondent.
All institutions, shops, markets and Government offices remained shut.
With bandh supporters moving around the streets with bamboo sticks in hand, all public transporters like buses and taxis as well as private vehicles stayed off the roads leaving the streets totally deserted.
|
Even as the bandh supporters burnt tyres in the middle of roads, there was no untoward incident till the time of filing this report.
The bandh also paralysed vehicular movement along NH 53, adds our Jiribam correspondent.
At least eight vehicles including one belonging to Northern Frontier Railways were vandalised by bandh supporters at Noney (Longmai) in Tamenglong district.
A dozen of vehicles have also been stranded at Noney due to the blockade called by ANSAM.
While the blockade is indefinite, the bandh will end tomorrow midnight.
