Members of Kuki Students' organisation (Sadar Hills) along with personnel of District Malaria Department, Kangpokpi and T Waichong PHC assessed conditions of villagers along the I-T Road where outbreak of malaria had been reported in the area.
Besides distributing 100 mosquito nets and medicines to the needy during the visit on September 6, the KSO organised inspection tour also detected 8-10 percent of the inhabitants with sign of malaria infection according to blood sample verification, said a KSO release.
It further added that a similar visit was conducted on September 9 by members of KSO, Twilang Block along with DMO, Kangpokpi but could not deliver upto the expectation of the populace owing to shortage of medicines.
Reminding all concerned that five persons have lost their lives to malarial diseases, the student body also call upon the authorities concerned to pay immediate attention to the people's woes.
On the otherhand, KSO, Sadar Hills also urged the Chief Engineer (PHED) to expedite the water supply scheme of Kangpokpi and cautioned that any further delay on the part of the department authorities would not be tolerated.
The said scheme was sanctioned by the central Government about 2/3 years back, it added.
