Imphal, July 07 2014:
The Manipur State Council of Communist Party of India (CPI) has set to launch a campaign on electoral reform from July 12 .
The campaign, which will kick start from Slopeland Public School, Khongjom, would be carried forward up to the National level, said CPI National Executive member Dr M Nara.
The campaign would mainly focus on bringing an end to spending huge amount of money in elections, he said while speaking at a press conference at Irawat Bhavan.
Maintaining that the election to 16th Lok Sabha was an election of wealthy persons, capitalists and corporate houses, Dr Nara said that they pumped in a huge amount of cash to their candidates and political parties.
The upcoming Union Budget would definitely see the impact of this extravagant electioneering, Dr Nara said and speculated the Budget would be a pro-corporate budget.
He added that the country would witness inflation, rise in black marketing and privatisation after the Budget.
Expressing his observation on Congress MLAs' demand for reshuffling of Ministry, Dr Nara said that MLAs are worried by the notion that they would not be able to make enough money to contest the next Assembly election.
The present Government is unable to maintain law and order and check price rise, he said and added that the MLAs of the ruling party are not showing any concern on people's hardships but they are busy in lobbying for Ministerial berths.
Maintaining that other parties are also showing rift among their MLAs and leaders, Dr Nara said that this is not desirable to the people of the State.
On the backdrop of all these unwanted happenings, the campaign which will kick start on July 12 will seek to bring a change in the electoral system of the country, Nara added.
