Th Surendranath Singh underscored the importance of equipping all with the nuances of IPR.
He said, IPR is a collective word for protection of copyright, trademark, design, geographical indication and new plant variety.
He further elaborated that mere production of a new item/commodity could not be termed as IPR.
To identify a commodity as IPR, it should have commercial value, and the commodity should be preserved.
Th Surendranath put IPR in layman's parlance as registering the plot you buy in your name and protecting the same for your use.
He said, any commodity produced on the soil of Manipur could be registered under Geographical Indication (GI) .
