Imphal, December 26 2012:
While condoling the tragic demise of television journalist thangjam Dwijamani in police firing on December 23, Senior Citizens for Society has urged all concerned to call off the bandh as well as counter-bandh.
Speaking to newspersons at the Society's Nagamapal RIMS Road office today, its president N Benoy, secretary Prof L Sadananda and its member advocate Kh Mani conveying solidarity to the suffering of the bereaved family of dwijamani urged both the Central and State Governments to provide adequate compensation to the victim's family.
They also demanded that state security force personnel involved in the killing of Dwijamani be booked and punished according to law of the land.
Strongly condemning involvement of NSCN IM's SS Lt Col Livingstone Anal in the molestation and assault of a manipuri film actress and opening fire at her two male-colleagues, the senior trio proposed that the Chandel incident be handed over to the CBI for a thorough investigation.
Appealing to the bandh sponsors to refrain from any act that could cause inconveniences to the general public, they opined that restoration of normalcy rather than launching movements is the need of the hour.
Insisting that in declaring Livingstone Anal as a wanted person the individual's photograph should be published in newspapers, the senior citizens also stated they a memorandum would be handed to the Prime Minister detailing prevailing situation besieging Manipur.
