Security forces seize huge quantity of drugs

Imphal, May 25 2011:
Troops of 116th BSF battalion seized 13 bags of white colour tablets suspected to be high profile narcotic drugs/psychotropic substances worth around ' 50 lakh yesterday when they conducted a check on a Maruti Gypsy bearing registration no.MN-01-K-8433 .
A statement of Manoj Kumar, Deputy Commandant (G) SHQ CI (Ops) BSF said that BSF troops seized the items after receiving specific information of trafficking of contraband and illegal drugs along the Heirok-Thamlai road in Thoubal district.
The vehicle carrying the items weighing around 460 kg was driven by Winson Shinglai Tangkhul (43) son of Late Shangreiyo Shinglal of Yeason village of Kasom Khullen, presently residing at Pallel.
On spot verification, the troop revealed that he was paid ' 10,000 for transporting the drugs from Pallel to Parengtong.
He was to hand over the item to a woman name Tinneikim Haokip of Khudengthabi.
Winson further revealed that these drugs were to be ferried over to Myanmar through different couriers.
He along with the seized items have been handed over to the officer in-charge of the Narcotic and Affairs of Border of Imphal PS, the statement added.
Troops of 42 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) apprehended one individual along with banned drugs from a bus (MN-01 -1286) at Bongyang yesterday around 4.15 pm.
He was identified as Ajit Singh (19) son of Iboyai Singh of Sekmaijin, Mayang Imphal.
A total of 87170 Tie-Cold tablets were recovered from the individual who has been handed over to the custom office in Pallel along with the seized items, a statement of the PRO, IGAR (S) said.
Hueiyen Lanpao (English edition) clarifies that no Army establishment was involved in the news report which appeared in today's edition under "Heated argument between police and Army at Moreh" but that it involved personnel of a Central security force detailed in Moreh.
