A two day North East Folklore Workshop commenced today at the premises of Government Music College, Palace Compound.
The workshop is being jointly organised by the North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur and the Art and Culture, Department, Government of Manipur.
The inaugural function of the workshop being participated by artistes from Assam, Nagaland and Mizoram was graced by Minister of Art and Culture Ph Parijat and retired Director of JN Manipur Dance Academy Longjam Joychandra as chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Ph Parijat conveyed deep concern over extinguishing culture, tradition and customs of the region.
As such, organisation of the workshop is most opportune and significant.
He also called upon all the ethnic groups of the region to study their origins.
Only then, peace will return in the region.
Moreover, all the differences and strata existing in the society can be effectively removed, noted the Art and Culture Minister.
In the afternoon technical session, many resource persons presented papers.
The session was moderated by Prof Nabachandra of Manipur University.
