As in other parts of the State, the 116th Patriots' Day was observed at Jiribam today along with inauguration of Ancestral Heroes' Memorial complex and laying the foundation stone of a Biodiversity Park.
The observance function held at Ningshingkhul was organised by Pari-Puri Athouba Ningshing Lup (PPANL) and was attended by Revenue Minister Th Debendra and Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Shyamkumar as chief guest and special guest respectively.
PPANL chairman S Kula presided the function which was also attended by president of Jiribam Ima Meira Paibee Lup (JIMPAL) K Subhasini, editor of Freedom RK Ranendrajit, president of UCM K Langamba, SDPO of Jiribam Police Statio Manimohan and representatives of various civil organisations coming from Imphal as guests of honour.
Prior to commencement of the function at 10 am, Debendra laid the foundation stone of the Biodi-versity Park which is to be set up at Ningshingkhul and inaugurated the Ancestral Heroes Memorial complex along with unveiling the statues of Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General and Paona Brajabashi.
Speaking at the occasion, the Minister said clear understanding of the past and the lesson that can be learnt from history is essential for the development of any society.
It is for this reason that we should remember and pay homage to the martyrs, he added.
He also exhorted the youth to live up to the ideals of their forefathers and work together for development and prosperity of the State.
Shyamkumar assured every possible help from his side for accelerating the pace of developmental works being taken up in Jiribam and announced donation of his two months' salary as aid toward construction of a community hall at Ningshingkhul.
ADC Jiribam Y Iboyaima was also present and spoke at the occasion.
