Seminar on WTO begins

A three-day seminar on 'World Trade Organisation/International Trade Issues of Relevance to Manipur' got underway from today at State Academy of Training, Takyelpat with Principal Secretary (Commerce & Industries) O Nabakishore inaugurating the seminar as the chief guest.
In his brief address, Nabakishore emphasised that Commerce and Industries Department personnel should have in-depth knowledge on the rules governing international trade so as to facilitate the State's business community have smooth trade relationships with their global counterparts.
With Moreh set to serve as an important link in trading between India and South East asian countries due to its strategic location there is need for expeditious development of relevant infrastructure at the border town, said the Principal Secretary who also suggested that department officials get familiar with finer points on international banking system.
Besides, Nabakishore, Joint Director General of foreign Trade Agneswar Sen, Deputy Director General of Federation of Indian Export Organisation Beddutta Nadwani, Superintendent of Customs (Kolkata) Sudep Mondal, Prof Sajal Mathur of Centre for World Studies and Indian Centre for World Trade and Director (Com & Ind) B John Tlangtinkhuma also attended the inauguration programme.
The seminar is a joint initiative of Centre for World Trade Organisation, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Department of Commerce and industries and Federation of indian Export Organisation Eastern Region.
On the first day of the seminar, Prof Sajal Mathur spoke on 'Overview of the WTO & Its agreements' and 'India and FTAs (with focus on Look East Policy) and the Relevance of WTO & FTAs to States', while FIEO faculty RN Mishra deliberated on 'Foreign Exchange Regulations, Exchange Rate, Hedging & Currency Operations' .
