Imphal, March 04 2012:
Clarifying over the allegations that the Power Department of the state is indulging in selling out power of the state to other states, N Sarat, Chief Engineer, Electricity Department, has categorically stated that the Power Department is not included in the power trading section, even though Power Trading was instituted in the year 2006 by the Union government, and hence there is no question of power being sold out by the Department to other states.
Addressing a press conference at his office at Keishampat today, N Sarat pointed out that under the Indian Electricity Act, 2003, at present the Union government is providing share of electricity to all its states at rate of 15/15 minutes block as per schedule allocation.
Manipur's share of electricity received during the Peak Hydro Season is around 121 megawatt.
But owing to capacity constraint of the Inter State Transmission Network, the state is able to receive only around 100 mega watt of power.
The remaining 21 mega watt is received by the state through Unscheduled Interchange Mechanism.
This Unscheduled Interchange Mechanism is a mechanism which is there in the Power System and could not be escaped from at all, the Chief Engineer explained.
He refuted the allegations that Power Department is selling out power to other states as totally baseless and challenged that if any wrong doings is found in the transactions carried out by the Power Department under the Unscheduled Interchange Mechanism, all the responsible officers of the Electricity Department including himself would resign.
