Kohima, March 03 2009:
With less than a day away for the state government to declare the result of its enquiry into the investigation of the murder of the Kasom Khullen SDO and his two staffs, the people of Thoubal district asserted it would boycott the upcoming parliamentary elections if the state government fails to take up necessary action against the NSCN-IM cadre involved in the brutal murder of the trio and the deputy commissioner of Ukhrul, Pankaj Pal.
A public meeting held at Thoubal, organised by the various clubs and women organisations of the area, resolved that it would boycott the parliamentary elections in the state if the state government fails in taking action against the culprits.
What is worth noting here is that a mass rally was supposed to be held prior to the public meeting.
However, with no permission given by the Thoubal DC, a meeting was held instead.
The public had also decided to submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the DC but it did not happened.
Nevertheless, the meeting resolved to submit it through the governor to the prime minister.
Apart from boycotting the parliamentary elections, the meeting also reaffirmed it stance to initiate criminal investigation against the Ukhrul DC, appropriate action against the culprits and the demand of handing over the culprit to the state government.
Ak Memcha, president, People Welfare Forum, speaking in the meeting alleged that state chief minister is not hearing to the hue and cry of its people but he must know that the meaning of womenfolk of the state wearing white dress indicated that the public are suffering under rules of SPF government in the state.
