For the first time after he Panchayat elections, a Gram Sabha sitting was held yesterday at KSYC public ground, Hiyangthang.
According to rules, there should be Gram Sabha sittings at least twice a year.
The Gram Sabha held at Hiyangthang was presided by Pradhan H Angoubi.
It discussed about the lack of various civic amenities in villages under jurisdiction of the Gram Panchayat.
Imphal West II Panchayat Secretary said that the State Government already decided to entrust 16 departments to Panchayat, each Gram Panchayat will be provided Rs 10 lakhs to take up development works in their areas.
Through Panchayats, many development schemes sponsored by the Union Government such as SGSY, Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension scheme, Indira Awaz Yojana and disaster management programmes are being implemented, he said.
Under the State Government, Panchayats have been taking up construction of community halls, crematoriums, culverts/bridges, public latrines, bus waiting sheds, market sheds, excavation of community ponds, shingling of IVRs primary schools, repairing of PHSC/dispensaries and development of playgrounds.
The Gram Sabha sitting will not only help maintain transparency in executing development works but also foster closer cooperation between Pradhans and Gram Sabha members, said Pradhan Angoubi.
