Highlighting that preservation of natural environment of manipur has been one of the areas of concern of the border Security force (BSF), Deputy Inspector General PS Raghava in a statement said Van Mahotsav was celebrated at BSF Campus (Koirengei) today with pomp and fervour.
The celebration at the Koirengei campus was participated by BSF personnel from sHQ BSF CI (Ops) Manipur and 88 Bn BSF along with their families, and is a part of the BSF's continuous tree plantation drive with similar campaigns having been launched at Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Imphal East and Thoubal district areas.
Further recounting that BSF has a long a association with the Manipuri society dating back to the 60s, the Deputy IG said a series of tree plantation drive is being undertaken by the BSF on barren features, in its deployment area for protection of environment and natural beauty of Manipur.
More than 2000 fruit bearing/ornamental/medicinal trees were planted in today's event wherein PS Raghava stressed on the need of protection and promotion of natural environment besides conveying to the gathering that it is the fundamental duty of all the citizens of India.
Further, expressing concern over the erratic climate changes being witnessed in recent years, Raghava as chief guest of the occasion cautioned that deforestation and apathy of people towards nature are prime reasons for disturbance to the ecological equilibrium.
He also reiterated BSF's objective to sustain contribution towards the preservation of natural environment of Manipur to enable the people promote and reap fruit from its large tourist potential.
