Govt cracks dies non whip against 57 staff

With functioning of the State Government coming almost to a standstill after the employees of the State Secretariat joined the cease work strike over the demand to implement the Central 6th Pay Commission in totality, the State administration has invoked the dies non principle against 57 employees.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today afternoon called on Governor Gurbachan Jagat at the Raj Bhavan to discuss the issue of the employees' strike and the ADC election.
After the employees of the State Secretariat joined the strike, functioning of the Government has been affected so much so that the drivers of the Secretaries and the Commissioners have stayed away from reporting for their duties.
With exception to some important officers, most employees have joined the strike and the office rooms of the Secretariat remained closed.
Taking serious note of the matter, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms has issued an order today invoking dies non against 57 employees of the Secretariat.
The employees against whom the principle of no work, no pay has been applied include 8 staff including an SO in the Fisheries Department, 7 personal staff in MOBC, 6 staff including an Under Secretary in MI, 6 staff in MOBC Section, 3 personal staff of Principal Secretary Works and 6 staff in Works Section, 3 personal staff of Principal Secretary (Economics and Statistics), 3 personal staff of Commissioner Transport and 6 staff in Transport Section, 6 staff in IFCS section and 3 others in Science and Technology.
The order issued by the Under Secretary (DP) said categorically that the absence of these 57 employees from duty is unauthorised and no salary and allowance will be admissible during the period of their unauthorised absence.
On the other hand, a meeting of the Committee of Officers was held with Chief Secretary DS Poonia in the chair at around 3.30 pm today and discussed the issue related to maintaining the same basic pay scale and pay band among the State Government and Central Government employees of the same rank at the time of implementing Central 6th Pay Commission in the State.
The meeting of the State Cabinet which is scheduled to be held with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in the chair tomorrow is also likely to discuss the cease work strike of the Govt employees.
Meanwhile, in support of the agitation being spearheaded by the Joint Administrative Council of AMTUC and AMGEO over 6th Pay demand, employees of the Electricity Department stayed away from their normal duty and staged a Wakat Meepham in fromt of their office complex today.
It is said that the protest demonstration would continue tomorrow as well.
