Imphal, April 15 2011:
All Zeliangrong Students' UnionAssam, Manipur and Nagaland (AZSUAMN) has today issued strict directives to all its zonal units to brace themselves up for the proposed 48-hour total bandh starting April 17 midnight in Zeliangrong areas in Manipur against the highhanded of the security forces.
"This organization (AZSUAMN) has imposed a 48-hour bandh with effect from midnight of April 17 to midnight of April 19, 2011, in order to pressurized the Government of India to take up necessary action against the highhanded Indian Army and paramilitary forces who let loose reign of terror among the innocent Zeliangrong public," stated a press release issued by the outfit's publicity wing.
Asserting that Colonel Chonkar of 11 Assam Rifles has been running from pillar to post seeking forgiveness from Churches in Tamenglong district headquarters for his haughtiness in the past, the Zeliangrong organization said that a mere apology may not be able to compensate for those six decades of old wrongs committed against the Naga public by the Indian security forces.
The Zeliangrong students' body also questioned the validity of the support extended to Col Chonkar by womenfolk from Vocational Training Centre (VTC) and others.
"We will expose their nexus in due course of time," the AZSU said.
AZSUAMN has submitted a complaint memorandum to the Prime Minister of India on March 24, 2011, in collaboration with Zeliangrong Baudi Manipur (ZBM), but no action has so far been taken in this regard, the press release said.
It has warned that if the Government of India continues to be apathetic to its demands and does not initiate positive action against the highhandedness of the Indian security forces and Col Chonkar of 11 Assam Rifles, the organization will not remain silent but intensify its agitation in cooperation with the general public until its charter of demands are fulfilled.
Meanwhile, the organization has decided to go ahead with the proposed 48-hour total bandh in Zeliangrong areas starting April 17 midnight and has appealed for support from the general public for its success.
