Imphal, April 15 2009:
The office of the Chief Electoral Officer has recommended to the Election Commission of India to suspend the BDO of Kakching on charges of dereliction of election duty.
A reliable source informed The Sangai Express that the BDO was given the post of Sectoral Magistrate and accordingly he was provided with an EVM and the security cover.
In connection with the Lok Sabha election, the Returning Officer of Thoubal had instructed the BDO to spend the night at Kakching police station today before proceeding for poll duty.
However the BDO violated this instruction and turned up at Thoubal along with the EVM sans the security personnel assigned to him.
Taking a serious view of the violation of instructions the RO has recommended to the Chief Electoral Officer that the BDO be placed under suspension and accordingly, the CEO has forwarded the recommendation of the RO to the ECI for necessary action.
