Imphal, December 12 2013:
While a complaint against items found missing in a postal parcel has been lodged to the Director of speed post Centre (Imphal), one Laishram Meiraba of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai insisted the Centre should compensate article owners.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, Meiraba said he was supposed to receive 3.475 kgs of varied articles sent from Bhopal by one Ningombam Shelly Devi in November.
On being contacted by Speed Post Centre personnel about the arrival of the packet addressed to him, Meiraba said he went to collect the same on December 6 and not only detected the package already cut open but some costlier items missing inside the box.
Even though the packet was opened in the presence of the Centre's personnel an official used un-parliamentary words when posers were raised as to who should be held responsible for the missing articles which include soft leather jacket, woollen sweater, car perfume and other miscellaneous small items.
In place of the missing articles the packet was found containing 1.680 kgs of ordinary items such as toiletries, empty perfume bottle, empty box of Jockey underwear and plastic carry-bags, he maintained.
Opining that many individuals too might have had similar experiences but tolerate silently, Meiraba said he has filed a formal complaint to the Centre's Director and awaiting what measure would be taken by the Centre.
