Troops of 34 Assam Rifles in association with state police commandoes attached at Thoubal district police in a daring operation claimed to have rescued two kidnapped girls from the hands of suspected Manipur based outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (Nando faction).
The incident took place at Khangabok village in Thoubal district.
The rescued girls are Miss Angom Asha (22), daughter of A Ningdan and K Pemavati (19), daughter of late K Keshav both from Moirang in Bishnupur district, a statement of the PRO, Assam Rifles said.
They were abducted from Imphal west by suspected KCP (Nando) faction on March 5, the statement added.
However it failed to mention the reason behind the kidnapping of the two girls.
Yesterday morning, based on confirmed reports that the girls were being taken from Khangabok market to an unknown location with malafide intentions, the combined team of the security forces conducted a search operation at crowded Khangabok market and the girls were rescued from the clutches of the abductors, it informed.
However the kidnappers managed to escape taking advantage of the crowded area and restraint exercised by the security team to avoid any collateral damage, the source added.Later the girls were handed over to their respective parents in the presence of the represen-tatives of the 34 Assam Rifles, Thoubal police and Meira Paibis on Sunday morning, it said.
