Imphal, May 07 2011:
Asserting that the new road traffic rules of the Government has been causing serious impedance to transportation of life saving drugs, the All Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association (MCDA) has threatened to launch various forms of democratic agitation if the authority fails to take up some remedial measures at the earliest.
As half of the medicines are not very light, it is impossible to transport medicines without vehicles.
As such, the Government should exempt transportation of life saving drugs from the new traffic rules.
Speaking to media persons today MCDA general secretary Dr RK Ratankumar asked if the new traffic rules should be interpreted as no parking zone or no standing zone.
People should be informed about the new rules.
If it is about no parking zones only, superior officers should explain it clearly to their subordinate personnel for proper implementation of the new rules.
While hand-carts have been prohibited from some business areas of Khwairamband, there are some places where these carts can go after paying some money to Traffic and VDF personnel on duty, Ratankumar alleged.
However, due to prohibition on parking vehicles at the places where life saving drugs are stocked, a serious problem has cropped up regarding distribution of these drugs to the people.
If the present trend continues, people may face serious problem of drug shortage in retail markets.
If the Govt does not exempt transportation of life saving drugs from the new traffic rules, MCDA would be compelled to launch various forms of democratic agitation including suspension of sale of life saving drugs, he added.
