Jiribam, January 05 2008:
The dearth of fuel due to the stoppage of supply from neighbouring Assam has proved to be a boon for unscrupulous agents here for earning good money as the petrol price is soaring upto Rs 60 to 70 per litre.
Ever since the supply had been stopped, the only fuel station of the town, Hransing Lienzathang & Sons started selling petrol at a rate of Rs 55 per litre.
The proprietor of the fuel station said that the supply of fuel had been stopped few days back due to terror activities prevailing in the neighbouring State Assam.
The petrol he is selling in his station is bought from Sunil Automobiles, an agent of Essar Limited from Silchar at Rs 48 per litre compelling him to charge more, the proprietor added.
He however expressed hope that the normal supply of fuel would be resumed within a few days.
Meanwhile, taking advantage of the situation, unscrupulous agents are selling petrol at an exorbitant rate of Rs 60 to 70 per litre.
To make up these extra bucks, the auto rickshaw owners have also increased fare upto 50 percent giving the denizens of the town a hard time.
The denizens of the sub-division drew attention of the State Government to take up necessary steps sensing the inconvenience being faced by the people.
