Imphal, November 24:
Setting November 29 as the deadline for fulfilling its long standing demand, All Manipur Die-in-Harness Appointment Demand Committee has warned of launching various intense agitations against the Government if it fails to take up necessary measures in this regard.
Addressing a press conference in this regard at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, secretary of the Demand Committee I Maipak disclosed that the total number of Die-in-Harness applicants in the State from 1998 till date is around 1600.In view of the poor financial condition of the State, the scheme was abolished by the Government on June 15, 2002 However, after an agreement with the Committee, the scheme was reintroduced by the Government with effect from December 16, 2006.But so far none of the applicants have been benefited from the reintroduction of the scheme.
Even if the Govt has failed to keep its promises and implement the points agreed with the Committee, yet it has been effecting appointment on the sly in favour of some people.
This is nothing but discrimination and defiance of the democratic norms, the Demand Committee said.
