Imphal, March 26:
Due to the irresponsibility and apathy of successive Governments, Tousem sub-division even after 58 years of the country's independence is still reeling under pathetic underdevelopment without any hope of improvement in the near future.
A statement issued by the Developmental Coordinating Team (DCT) Oinamlong Range lamented that there is not a single nurse, leave apart doctors at the CHC, PHCs and PHSCs of Tousem sub-division.
The Oinamlong PHC constructed recently is also of no use to the people as a troop of CRPF has occupied the building even as it is yet to be inaugurated.
Taking strong exception to the silence of the State Govt, DCT asked as to why the Govt did not construct a barrack instead of PHC if it was meant to house security personnel.
Moreover, personnel of Sikh Regiment have moved in the local church thereby demeaning the sanctity of the place and forfeiting the right to religion.
The DCT decried the failure of the Deputy Commissioner to take up any remedial measure in this regard despite numerous appeals and reminders.
Another issue of grave concern in the unavailability of PDS items in all the villages of the sub-division.
Even as a large number of villagers are card holders of BPL, AAY, Anapurna scheme etc, no food grains or SK oil ever reach these villages, it disclosed.
Blaming the State Government for the failure to provide PDS items to the villages, the Tamenglong, Oinam-long and Tousem DCT Federations have decided to take recourse to various modes of agitation including bandhs to air the woes of the villagers and to assert for their rights.
